Top Tips for Self Care Journaling

If you’ve never journaled before, the process of journaling for self-care might feel a bit unnatural.

Here are some of my top tips to start your self-care journal journey off on the right foot.

1. Find a journal that you love

Starting a self-care journal is deeply personal. It helps you look inside yourself. It's key to choose what feels best for you - using a notebook or an app. Your way of journaling can change as you explore more.

I also recommend spending time finding the perfect self-care journal that reflects you as a person. It might seem unimportant but, having a journal that looks pretty and reflects your character is key!

2. Don't worry about being perfect

Don’t stress about perfect writing. Just let your feelings out without filters. The focus is on being open and true, not on making everything flawless. This is what makes journaling healing.

3. Make it a habit

The best way to get good at something new is to turn it into a habit!

To do this, set aside 15 minutes every single day for your journaling until it becomes something that you do automatically each day.

I personally like doing it in the morning but there is no ‘right’ time to journal.

4. Create a relaxing environment to journal in

Find a quiet place where you can think clearly. I find that my best journaling sessions happen when there are no distractions around.

Try to create a calm and safe space for your self care journal time. This could mean playing relaxing music and lighting some candles of even going to a quite spot outside (I personally love the beach!).

5. Let your thoughts run free

Let your mind wander and think creatively. There are no wrong answers. Using prompts helps you get to know yourself better. It’s a way to grow personally through writing.
