I Use ‘Life Soundtracks’ to Turn Every Day Into a Good Day

I recently listened to an episode of the In Her Power Podcast which really resonated with me! In the podcast, Bed talked about how she romanticises the mundane by creating mini soundtracks for each routine and ritual.

As soon as I heard it I immediately wanted to try it for myself- I’ve always loved try new (and slightly unique) self improvement ideas and this one seemed super fun.

How (and Why) It Works

The concept of the ‘daily soundtrack’ technique is to make yourself feel like the main character of your life and turn your ‘boring’ daily routine into a wonderful episode of your very own show. This encourages you to appreciate and love the small daily tasks that you usually ignore.

Doing this helps you to shift your mindset to a place of gratitude and optimism- you start to appreciate your ‘normal’ life by viewing small moments as key parts of your main character’s storyline.

Over time, you build an appreciation for your daily routines, which helps you to feel uplifted and happier.

How I Started Creating My Own Daily Soundtracks

I started simple. I picked three key parts of my day, my morning routine, my walk to work, and cooking dinner, and gave each one its own vibe. Think: soft acoustic for my slow mornings, upbeat for my walk to grab a coffee, and gentle piano tracks when I’m cooking.

I made a few playlists on Spotify (highly recommend giving them cute names like “Main Character Energy”, “Soft Girl Afternoon”, or “Romantic Cooking”). Now, when I light a candle and journal in the morning, or tidy my flat with a herbal tea in hand, I hit play and instantly feel more grounded and present.

The Mood-Boosting Benefits

There’s something about pairing a good playlist with a daily habit that makes it stick. When a soothing track plays while I’m doing my skincare or writing my to-do list, I stop rushing and start enjoying. It feels less like a task, and more like a moment I want to be in.

Science even backs it up—music can help regulate mood, reduce stress and create emotional anchors.

That means your playlist actually helps you feel the way you want to feel, whether that’s calm, energised, focused or inspired.

Little Tips to Try It Yourself

  • Create 2–3 playlists for your regular routines (start with morning, afternoon and evening)

  • Choose music that makes you feel the way you want to feel during that time

  • Give your playlists a fun name that makes you smile when you see it

  • Pop your headphones in while doing the most ordinary task- it changes everything

  • Don’t overthink it! You can always shuffle or switch it up depending on your mood

My Go-To Earphones

If you feel like treating yourself to a new pair of earphones, perfect for starting this new happy girl habit, I’ve been loving the Jabra Elite 5. I love these ones because you can control the noise-cancellation from your phone, which makes it easy to switch up how much noise is being cancelled out.

They’re also really comfortable and never fall out of my ears!

Final Thoughts

Sometimes the smallest shifts can have the biggest impact- and this one costs absolutely nothing! Adding soundtracks to your daily rituals is a gentle way to infuse your routines with joy and meaning. It helps you stay present, feel more intentional, and fall in love with your own life.

So if you’ve been feeling a little blah lately, give it a go. Put your headphones in, hit play on your “Life Soundtrack,” and walk through your day like the main character you truly are.
