My Morning Skincare Routine for Glowing Skin (Everything I Use)

People always ask what I actually do every morning to get that glow, so here it is, start to finish, no skipped steps. This routine takes me about seven minutes and it's the reason my skin looks awake even on days I definitely am not. I've tweaked this order a bunch over the past year and this is finally the version that actually sticks because it's simple enough that I don't skip steps when I'm running late.

Step 1: CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser (from $13)

I don't need a heavy duty cleanse in the morning since I already washed my face at night, so this foaming formula just removes any oil that built up while I slept. It's got niacinamide in it too which is a nice bonus.

Gentle enough for daily use without drying me out, and it rinses off completely so there's no residue left behind before my next step.

Step 2: Thayers Witch Hazel Toner (from $11)

This toner preps my skin and balances things out before I layer on actives. The alcohol free rose petal version is the one to get, the original formula can be a little drying for some people.

I just pat it on with my hands, no cotton pad needed, and it takes about ten seconds so there's really no excuse to skip it.

Step 3: COSRX Vitamin C 23 Serum (from $22)

Vitamin C in the morning is non negotiable for me because it helps protect skin from the day's damage and gives you that brightness that makes everything look more glow up and less dull.

This one is potent, so start every other day if you're new to vitamin C, your skin needs to build tolerance. I noticed brighter, more even toned skin within about three weeks of using it consistently.

Step 4: The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% (from $8)

I know layering vitamin C and niacinamide used to be considered a no go, but modern formulas are stable enough that it's genuinely fine, and this combo controls my oil and shine all day.

Wait a minute or two between layers so everything actually absorbs instead of just sliding around on top of your skin.

Step 5: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel (from $20)

This gel moisturizer locks in everything I just applied without feeling heavy under makeup or sunscreen. It gives that dewy glow up finish without any greasy residue.

This is the step that makes my skin actually look hydrated by lunchtime instead of dry and flaky, and it works great in every season, not just summer.

Step 6: EltaMD UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF 46 (from $41)

This is the one splurge item in my whole morning routine and it's non negotiable for me. It's got niacinamide built in too, so it's basically doing double duty as skincare and sun protection. It's pricier than drugstore sunscreens but the texture is so nice that I never skip it, which is the entire point of picking a sunscreen you'll actually wear every day.

Step 7: Aquaphor Lip Repair (from $5)

Last step, always. Chapped lips instantly age your whole face and ruin the glow up vibe, so I never leave the house without this on. It's cheap, it works, and I probably have five of these scattered around my house and bag at all times, plus one in every coat pocket for winter.

A few things I've learned along the way

Order actually matters more than people think, always go thinnest to thickest, so serums before creams and creams before sunscreen. Also give each layer a minute to actually sink in instead of piling everything on at once, your skin needs that time to absorb the good stuff instead of it just sitting on the surface. And don't add five new products at once, introduce one thing at a time so you actually know what's working and what's irritating you.

Why I never skip sunscreen, even indoors

I used to think sunscreen was only necessary if I was actually going outside for a while, and that was a huge mistake. UV rays come through windows, and blue light from your phone and laptop screen can add to skin damage too. Once I started wearing SPF every single morning no matter what my day looked like, I noticed way less new sun damage and my other products, like the vitamin C, actually got to do their job instead of fighting an uphill battle.

That's genuinely the whole routine, cleanser to lip balm, and it's a mix of drugstore basics and one splurge item that's actually worth it.

The whole thing costs around $120 to get started but most of these products last months, so it evens out fast once you break it down per use. It also does not take much extra time once it becomes a habit, most mornings I am done in under ten minutes including the five minutes I spend scrolling my phone while my toner dries. Try it out and let me know how your skin reacts, everyone's skin is different so feel free to swap steps around to fit what yours actually needs.
